Structure of DNA

In class we got a hand out of people too look at on the internet who have done experiments to prove DNA. Than we went to a website and learned more about the structure and I will talk about what I learned from this website.
First there were different sections to click on for an interactive activity the one I did first is Finding the Structure. It gave me a problem, the problem was about a swiss doctor named Friedrich Miescher. In 1869 this doctor isolated a new chemical substance because he was very interested in cells and the new invention at the time, the microscope. He already had white blood cells and pus-filled bandages from the hospital he worked at, so he just added simple chemicals than isolated a white precipitate called nuclein. He assumed and he was correct about it that the precipitate was from the large nuclei of the white blood cells. He isolated the first crude extract of DNA. Once all the scientists found out about his discovery they all tried to find new ways to purify it. They ended up naming it deoxyribonucleic acid because of it's structure which was ribose based and it's properties which had an acidic nature. Some scientists started to even deconstructe the DNA and found it was a long chain of molecules. The investagators in this problem or players are; Erwin Chargaff, Rosalind Franklin, Linus Pauling, James Watson and Francis Crick and Maurice Wilkins. They had interviews of each of the players when you clicked on them.
